Let every American, every lover of liberty, every well wisher to his posterity, swear by the blood of the Revolution, never to violate in the least particular, the laws of the country; and never to tolerate their violation by others.

As the patriots of seventy-six did to the support of the Declaration of Independence, so to the support of the Constitution and Laws, let every American pledge his life, his property, and his sacred honor; let every man remember that to violate the law, is to trample on the blood of his father, and to tear the charter of his own, and his children's liberty.

Let reverence for the laws, be breathed by every American mother, to the lisping babe, that prattles on her lap; let it be taught in schools, in seminaries, and in colleges; let it be written in Primers, spelling books, and in Almanacs; let it be preached from the pulpit, proclaimed in legislative halls, and enforced in courts of justice. And, in short, let it become the political religion of the nation; and Let the old and the young, the rich and the poor, the grave and the gay, of all sexes and tongues, and colors and conditions, sacrifice unceasingly upon its altars.

While ever a state of feeling, such as this, shall universally, or even, very generally prevail throughout the nation, vain will be every effort, and fruitless every attempt, to subvert our national freedom.

Hurricane Ike takes aim at Washington, D.C.

Well no, not yet. But if you're going to name a hurricane 'Ike' in an election year - after 8 years of Republican neglect - remember his namesake: the last non-corporate Republican president.

General Dwight D. (Ike) Eisenhower, after liberating Europe (which actually needed liberating,) was elected our 34th president. He created our Interstate highway System (now crumbling from neglect under GOP non-governance,) and the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge (now threatened by GOP endorsed oil interests.)

But perhaps most notably: President Ike Eisenhower, in a national address, warned the American people about the dangerous rise of the Military Industrial Complex... the very same Military Industrial that is now pushing for a 100 year war.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. - President Dwight D. Eisenhower

When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to go and fight it. After my experience, I have come to hate war. War settles nothing. - President Dwight D. Eisenhower

Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels - men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion. - President Dwight D. Eisenhower

How far you can go without destroying from within what you are trying to defend from without? - President Dwight D. Eisenhower

I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity. - President Dwight D. Eisenhower

Yes - believe it or not - this guy was actually a Republican.

So if you were a hurricane named Ike...where would you track?
