Let every American, every lover of liberty, every well wisher to his posterity, swear by the blood of the Revolution, never to violate in the least particular, the laws of the country; and never to tolerate their violation by others.

As the patriots of seventy-six did to the support of the Declaration of Independence, so to the support of the Constitution and Laws, let every American pledge his life, his property, and his sacred honor; let every man remember that to violate the law, is to trample on the blood of his father, and to tear the charter of his own, and his children's liberty.

Let reverence for the laws, be breathed by every American mother, to the lisping babe, that prattles on her lap; let it be taught in schools, in seminaries, and in colleges; let it be written in Primers, spelling books, and in Almanacs; let it be preached from the pulpit, proclaimed in legislative halls, and enforced in courts of justice. And, in short, let it become the political religion of the nation; and Let the old and the young, the rich and the poor, the grave and the gay, of all sexes and tongues, and colors and conditions, sacrifice unceasingly upon its altars.

While ever a state of feeling, such as this, shall universally, or even, very generally prevail throughout the nation, vain will be every effort, and fruitless every attempt, to subvert our national freedom.

One down...

I hesitate to blog it - because I'm still not quite sure I really believe it. Is the Wolfie really out the door?

Or is this just a predictable scene in a B-rated slasher movie... where the 'supposedly dead' monster miraculously rises from the floor to attack the falsely-relieved, former/soon-to-be-again victims?

Is he really gone? And where will he pop up next? (Perhaps our next Attorney General?)

Never forget that Wolfie is a loyal Bushie. He isn't gone - no chance. He's merely been reassigned.

Hell no: they won't go

Yesterday, two more GOP Senators called for the resignation of Alberto Gonzales.

Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) both called for Gonzales to step down, after hearing testimony from former Deputy Attorney General James Comey - testimony that showed Gonzales attempted to undermine the Department of Justice during Ashcroft's reign, by trying to force through the White House illegal wiretapping agenda against Ashcroft's will.

Hagel and Roberts join four other Republicans who have already called for Gonzales to resign: Senator John Sununu (R-NH), Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK), Senator John McCain (R-AZ,) and House GOP Conference Chairman Representative Adam Putnam (R-FL). I'm not sure why Senator Arlen Specter isn't on this list... his razor-sharp contempt for Gonzales is now legendary.

"The American people deserve an attorney general, the chief law enforcement officer of our country, whose honesty and capability are beyond question," (Senator Chuck) Hagel said in a statement. "Attorney General Gonzales can no longer meet this standard. He has failed this country. He has lost the moral authority to lead."

Well, good luck with that. The entire world can't seem to get Wolfowitz to step down - he just refuses to leave.

Bushies are above the law. Ask any one of them and they'll tell you. They profess to serve only at the pleasure of Bush, Cheney, and of course GOD (an acronym that some believe means 'GOP Over Democracy;' although many believe the exact translation is really 'GOP Overthrowing Democracy'.)

Gonzo is apparently adhering to the same tactic used by Wolfowitz. He is flat out refusing to resign, and of course, Bush is backing him all the way. Gonzales knows you won't actually do anything about his lies and transgressions - you won't make him leave, and you can't make him tell the truth. You can call for his resignation until you are all blue in the face, but until you bring legal charges against him - and or impeachment proceedings - he doesn't plan to go anywhere.

Realize - this is a guy who doesn't believe in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights, in Congress or the rights of American citizens. Your 'calls for resignation' mean nothing to a guy who believes he has the right to make up the rules as he goes along. He won't step down until you pull him down; not without direct, legal action... and perhaps handcuffs.

The wolf in the middle of the room

How to get rid of the Neocon you just caught with his hand in the cookie jar

Hell no - we won't go.

It seems the latest refuge for Neocons caught stealing, lying or cheating these days - is to simply ignore the fallout. Just refuse to step down. No cutting and running for these guys. Gonzales won't resign - and of course Bush won't fire him - and now Wolfowitz says he won't resign from his position as President of the World Bank either.

This probably doesn't come as much of a shock. These guys will never willingly give up the power. Power and money are the center of their universe. They are counting on their belief that everyone else - the great unwashed - are too weak to strike them down.

Sources close to the executive directors, speaking on the condition of anonymity while the matter remains undecided, said the board is reluctant to appear to cave to the staff and take the unprecedented step of firing a president. But a majority believes it would be "best if he decided on his own" to resign, one source said.

"Neener neener neener - can't make me!"

I'm curious... can't the bank simply fire him?

Apparently they can, and might.. although they are reluctant to do so. And guess what... just as with Gonzales, and Rumsfeld before him, and Brownie before Rummy - Bush is backing his man all the way.

The U.S. president traditionally names the World Bank head. Bush said last week that he strongly supports Wolfowitz and expects him to continue in the job.

"Wolfie, you're doing a heck of a job."
