Let every American, every lover of liberty, every well wisher to his posterity, swear by the blood of the Revolution, never to violate in the least particular, the laws of the country; and never to tolerate their violation by others.

As the patriots of seventy-six did to the support of the Declaration of Independence, so to the support of the Constitution and Laws, let every American pledge his life, his property, and his sacred honor; let every man remember that to violate the law, is to trample on the blood of his father, and to tear the charter of his own, and his children's liberty.

Let reverence for the laws, be breathed by every American mother, to the lisping babe, that prattles on her lap; let it be taught in schools, in seminaries, and in colleges; let it be written in Primers, spelling books, and in Almanacs; let it be preached from the pulpit, proclaimed in legislative halls, and enforced in courts of justice. And, in short, let it become the political religion of the nation; and Let the old and the young, the rich and the poor, the grave and the gay, of all sexes and tongues, and colors and conditions, sacrifice unceasingly upon its altars.

While ever a state of feeling, such as this, shall universally, or even, very generally prevail throughout the nation, vain will be every effort, and fruitless every attempt, to subvert our national freedom.

Oops! Now fish...

OK, let me get this straight. I can't feed commercial dog food to my dogs, or commercial cat food to my cats. It appears that no one is really sure - due to cross contamination in factories - which foods might be contaminated by tainted ingredients in other foods, so I should... cook for them.

OK.

I also can't eat pork. It appears some pigs were fed tainted feed - we aren't quite sure which pigs these were. Some were slaughtered. Just how far this practice spread isn't clear, thanks to the FDA. Mums the word!

OK. No pork.

I should stay away from chicken. Indiana poulterers fed melamine-tainted chicken feed to their chickens, and of course, its unclear where those chickens ended up. I'm in Indiana, so 'eating local' isn't going to fly this time. Should I avoid the eggs as well? The FDA says 'not to worry' but these are the same guys who told me 'not to worry' about the Vioxx I was taking just before people started dropping dead. And so, of course, I'm worried.

Now, I am to avoid farm-raised fish.

Well this is becoming easy... I'll just become a vegatarian! Plants don't eat tainted gluten; and since I'm already avoiding gluten, I should be fine. Well... I do eat rice, I guess. Where does the rice come from? Um, I dunno. The labels don't really say. If there is one thing that probably does come from China, that would be rice.

Scratch that idea.

Besides, I'd still have to avoid packaged spinach (food poisoning - probably should avoid all bagged lettuce too.) I have a nice little crop of organic vegetables growing rapidly out back, but they still won't be ready for consumption for several more weeks... the tomatoes won't be ripe for months.

I'm getting hungry. Can anybody tell me what to eat?
